Hornsea Pottery issued the first of this set of Christmas plates in 1979.This depicted the
letter "C", which was incorporated into an attractive and traditional Christmas scene.
Thereafter, for the next 8 years a further plate was issued, each based upon successive letters
of the word "Christmas". Only about 2000 of these plates was issued each year, and they were
sold worldwide. The plates were screen printed with rich enamel colours and enhanced with
24 carat gold. This series has quite properly become one of the most sought after ranges
produced by Hornsea.
